AFL greats have hit out at the “flick of a switch” dissent crackdown that saw two players marched for pointing at the big screen during Friday night’s clash between Carlton and Collingwood at the MCG.

After last year’s controversial dissent crackdown, which saw players regularly cough up 50-metre penalties for just raising their arms, the rule appeared to be softened in 2023.

But the crackdown was back in full force on Friday night, which left Garry Lyon, Jonathan Brown, Jordan Lewis and Nathan Buckley all questioning how umpires could suddenly be red-hot on the rule once more.
