Perez is second in the drivers’ championship but only 30 points ahead of Lewis Hamilton, with five races remaining in the Formula One season.

The Mexican’s form has floundered since two wins early in the year and his seat at Red Bull is under pressure despite him being contracted for next season.

Perez’s struggles have sparked rumours the 33-year-old could be axed at the end of the season, potentially opening the door for Daniel Ricciardo to take his old Red Bull seat after he left in 2018.

Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko recently said the team had “three drivers” in Ricciardo, Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda ready to replace Perez if needed.
