Sydney coach John Longmire was effusive in his praise for ruck recruit Brodie Grundy who nursed himself through the anxiety of facing his former team to have a “huge” impact on his team’s opening night win over Melbourne.
Swapping colours after just a single season at the Demons, Grundy finished with 22 disposals and won his head-to-head battle with six-time All-Australian ruckman Max Gawn on the back of an enormous second half.
His seven clearances in that period was the most of any player as he along with Isaac Heeney helped turn the contest back in the Swans’ favour.
