A “vigilante” who chased down two teens attempting to set his house on fire before attacking one with a machete claims he acted in self defence of a duo harassing his family, a court has heard.

A “vigilante” who chased down two teens attempting to set his house on fire before attacking one with a machete claims he acted in self defence of a duo harassing his family, a court has heard.

Manoa Sinamoni was arrested in November at the scene of a car crash at South Wentworthville after he embarked on a 10km pursuit through Sydney’s west.

CCTV allegedly captured him standing on top of one vehicle wielding a machete and slashing at one of the teenagers, who had been pinned between the two cars.

By that point, the second alleged firebug had fled the scene after dropping the machete Mr Sinamoni went on to use in allegedly wounding his victim.

Mr Sinamoni’s lawyers told the NSW Supreme Court on Wednesday a jury would be asked to decide whether his actions were reasonable in the circumstances.
