Hurricane Ernesto, which has rapidly gained strength in the Atlantic, has reached Category 2 and is threatening to hit Bermuda while creating dangerous conditions on the East Coast of the United States. This storm has already left its mark on Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, leaving hundreds of miles of people without power.
The National Hurricane Center reported that the hurricane's maximum sustained winds reached 100 mph (160 kph) early Friday, and it was centered about 360 miles (580 km) south-southwest of Bermuda.
