Why Oasis fans are sweating over Dublin tickets ahead of Saturday sale quirk

Belfast Telegraph - 27/08
Oasis fans here are gearing up for a Ticketmaster showdown ahead of the band’s highly-anticipated comeback tour, with a ballot registration for tickets to the UK and Ireland gigs already open.

Liam and Noel Gallagher have confirmed their reunion after splitting in 2009, announcing dates in Cardiff, Manchester, London and Edinburgh.

The brothers will also perform two gigs in Dublin’s Croke Park on August 16 and 17.

Tickets prices will start at €86.50 (£73) plus booking fee. There will be a pre-sale on Friday, and the band’s website states: “We strongly advise that those wishing to purchase tickets register in advance of the sale with the relevant ticket agencies.”

There are some concerns that Northern Ireland fans could face an extra challenge, as tickets for the Dublin gig go on sale an hour earlier than tickets for the concerts in Great Britain.

Some fear this could encourage English, Scottish and Welsh fans to try to increase their chances of attending a gig by buying up tickets for Dublin and squeezing out fans here and in the Republic.

The band tweeted that tickets for the Dublin concert would go on sale at 8am IST (Irish Standard Time) on Saturday and 9am BST (British Summer Time) for the concerts in Great Britain. IST and BST are both an hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time.

A spokesperson for event management company, MCD Productions, said there was no particular reason for the difference in sale times between the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Announcing the pre-sale scheduled for Friday, the band tweeted: “To ensure the maximum number of fans have a fair opportunity to access tickets, applicants will be selected for the pre-sale via a ballot.

“Ballot registration is open now and will close at 7pm BST, this Wednesday 28th August.

“Successful applicants will receive an email with full access information the morning of Friday 30th August.

“Success in the ballot will not guarantee tickets. Tickets will be allocated on a first come first served basis.”
