BRASÍLIA - After strong articulation to garner support, the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva obtained 18 votes from the Liberal Party (PL), of former President Jair Bolsonaro, to approve the PEC of the spending cut package in the Chamber. In the voting in the 1st round, there were 344 votes in favor, of which 308 were needed.
On the other hand, three deputies from the president's party, PT, voted against the proposal: Rui Falcão (PT-SP), Marcon (PT-RS) and Natália Bonevides (PT-RN). Furthermore, all PSOL members voted against the PEC.
On Wednesday, the 18th, the vote was postponed after the government failed to obtain the necessary votes. The Executive, therefore, mobilized this Thursday to win votes.
In the morning conversations, according to reports heard by Estadão, the government offered amounts in parliamentary amendments in 2025 of R$5 million per parliamentarian in the health area.
In the plenary, teams of government technicians called on parliamentarians who had already traveled to their states to vote. The president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), had authorized, the day before, remote voting given the difficulty of obtaining the votes necessary for approval.
This is the second project in the package approved by the Chamber, which previously approved a complementary bill with new triggers to reinforce the fiscal framework. The expectation is that the third bill, which limits the growth of the minimum wage and promotes changes to the Continuous Payment Benefit (BPC), will be analyzed this Thursday.
