NAB warns scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated, finding new ways to rip off unexpected Aussies.
According to NAB’s experts, there are five key scam trends that all Aussies need to know about in 2025.
NAB Executive, Group Investigations Chris Sheehan says while scammers are constantly evolving, there are some common red flags to watch out for.
“Criminals create urgency to act quickly. It could be creating FOMO (fear of missing out) that resold concert tickets will go quickly, that’ll you miss the next big crypto investment opportunity or that there’s a problem with your bank account and you need to move your money elsewhere,” he said.
Mr Sheehan, who was a former Australian Federal Police officer said the signs can vary with some being obvious including emails and texts filled with typos, fake links that do not match and unexpected reasons to contact the victim.
