The Constitutional Court of South Korea began this Tuesday the impeachment trial of President Yoon Suk Yeol, suspended from office by the National Assembly for having imposed martial law last month.
On the night of December 3, the conservative leader plunged the country into its worst political crisis in decades by suspending civil order and sending the army to parliament to unsuccessfully try to prevent deputies from revoking the measure.
Yoon has since been barricaded in his Seoul residence, ignoring interrogation summons and using his presidential guard to avoid arrest by investigators who accuse him of insurrection.
