Tsirang—The Royal Society for Protection of Nature (RSPN) is turning to drone technology to improve its efforts to monitor the critically endangered white-bellied heron and habitats in the country.
A week-long feasibility study, which concluded on February 7, tested the use of drones at key heron habitats along the Punatsangchhu and Sankosh rivers. The pilot project involved foresters from Punakha, Wangdue, Tsirang, the Phibsoo Wildlife Sanctuary, and Royal Manas National Park, along with RSPN officials.
