A fatal house fire that killed beloved burlesque performer Katie Tangey in Melbourne’s west is likely linked to the state's tobacco wars, police are now alleging.

Ms Tangey, who performed burlesque under the stage name Viven May-Royale, died inside her brother’s Truganina home after it was set alight in the early hours of January 16.

The 27-year-old was house-sitting the property for her brother while he was on his honeymoon.
