Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will join EU leaders in Brussels for a summit to discuss an 800 billion euro plan to bolster Europe's defense industry, ramp up military capability, and help provide urgent military support for Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will join EU leaders in Brussels for a summit to discuss an 800 billion euro ($844 billion) plan to bolster Europe's defense industry, ramp up military capability, and help provide urgent military support for Ukraine as governments race to bridge the gap between Europe and newly cutback US military and intelligence support for Ukraine.

The March 6 summit follows calls by German chancellor-in-waiting Friedrich Merz to boost his country's defense industry and warnings by French President Emmanuel Macron that Russian aggression would not stop at Ukraine and that Paris was willing to extend its nuclear umbrella to other European nations.

"I want to believe that the United States will stand by us. But we have to be ready if that is not the case," Macron said in a televised address to on the eve of the summit.
