Wicklow homeowners urged to be vigilant as burglaries rise 33pc

Wicklow homeowners have been advised to prioritise home security as burglaries in the county rose by 33pc in the last year the fourth highest increase of any county in the country.

According to the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO), which cover the period from October 2023 to September 2024, the number of recorded burglaries in the Wicklow Garda division was 301 – a rise of 33pc on the previous year.

When you compare this with the national picture, where burglaries increased by just 10pc (9,981 burglaries), Wicklow homeowners are being urged to take home security seriously. However, the data also outlines that 21 of the 28 Garda divisions have also experienced an increase in burglaries within this same period.

The combined Roscommon and Longford Garda divisions experienced the highest increase at 56pc (277 burglaries); Tipperary Garda division recorded the second highest increase at 50pc (371 burglaries); followed by Westmeath by 35pc (272 burglaries).
