The Prime Minister was seen leaving his Canberra residence, The Lodge at about 7am on Friday morning to begin the seven-minute drive to Governor House where he will Governor-General Sam Mostyn.

From there he will seek the dissolution of parliament, before holding a press conference to officially announce the date.

The start of the election campaign comes amid a clash of cost-of-living policies, after Labor passed its budget promise of $5-a-week tax cuts from July 1, 2026.
