Welcome to the new Trump world

Alghad - 06/04
The words that were reported on the tongues of Western politicians in the past few days, we have not heard of a century ago. US President Donald Trump describes his decisions to raise customs duties as the day of liberation and independence for America. European leaders with panic, are Trump's step a return to protectionist policies that prevailed in the nineteenth century. They, in turn, urge the steps towards independence and liberation from American economic and defense hegemony. The signs of a commercial war that are not mistaken, waving in the sky of the world, threatening to undermine a century of an economic approach that prevailed after the Second World War, is not limited to the economic side only, but the American -European coalition, the transit of the Atlantic, which formed the identity of the Western camp in the face of the emerging eastern camp on the impact of the Western successes. What happened and is happening in our last days from the signs of a commercial war, preceded by strong signs of the near disintegration of the US -European defensive alliance, and the choice of the Trump administration rapprochement with Russia, and even adopts its narration of the war with Ukraine, and the entire conflict with Europe anxious of the intentions of the Russian leadership and its ambitions after Ukraine. The current American administration tone towards Europe is unprecedented in its hostility, if in some cases, the American hostility to China exceeds the stronger and fierce competitor to the United States of America. The world, and with it America is still busy with direct and short -term repercussions of Trump's customs decisions, which are the collapse of global stock markets, the decline in oil prices, and the uncertainty that damages the global economy, especially after China responded similarly to raise customs duties on American imports, and the world awaits the European response coordinated on the Trump administration decisions. But this does not represent the deep meaning of the new protective policy of the Trump administration, but rather it is just symptoms that will settle soon, and the follow -up of the changes that these decisions carry on the long -term global trade mechanisms, and the relationship of the major economic blocs with each other in the future remains. And beyond that on the political ties between these blocs, which once their economic interests are separated, the signs of apathy appear in their political and security obligations. In other words, we are facing a strategic shift in international relations, which will not stop at the end of the period of this administration, but will continue for decades to come. This shift has its deep repercussions on the overall international balances and common interests, perhaps similar in its influences and results what has been shown from an international scene after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Socialist Camp. Arab countries will not be immune to these transformations. On the direct level, Trump's decisions included all Arab countries with customs duties. Most of them do not exceed 10 % and four countries, including Jordan, ranging between 20 and 30 %. This deserves an Arab movement, similar to what we are witnessing from many countries in the world, immediately began negotiations with Washington to alleviate the percentage of fees imposed on them. In parallel, economic developments deserve this depth and danger, an urgent meeting at the level of government heads in the Arab countries concerned to discuss ways to preserve the interests of their countries amid these unprecedented developments in the global economy. Trump's visit to Saudi Arabia and countries in the region may be an opportunity to rearrange the relationship papers with his administration at all levels, hoping that the Arab countries will have a place in the Trump world, which began to form and form the image of the world around us.
