MailOnline's investigation found that death rates exceeded 5 per cent of the population in nine separate areas, including parts of Sussex, Dorset and Leeds.

One in twenty people are dying in pockets of England and Wales, official statistics suggest. 

MailOnline's investigation – presented below in our interactive map – analysed the number of deaths recorded in all 36,000 neighbourhoods in 2023. 

This was then compared directly against the number of people estimated to live in that particular district.
