The Mazda3 has been a reliable recommendation as an affordable, efficient hatchback with some nicer touches as Mazda has made its move upmarket. However, for many enthusiasts, the Mazda3 is missing the optional performance trim that previously rivaled the hot hatches of yore, like the VW Golf GTI or the Ford Focus ST. A new concept that debuted at the Auto Roadshow in Malaysia shows a glimpse of a future "what-if" scenario that many would love to see come to fruition.
The perfunctorily named "Mazda3 Concept" appears to be a combination of an appearance package with minor handling and braking improvements. What is not subtle is the MS initials for "Mazda Sports" branded throughout the vehicle and multiple red racing stripes on the mirrors, hood, roof, front bumper, rocker panel, and rear wheel arch.
