Dublin patients feel ‘left behind’ by lack of neurorehabilitation services available

Patients with neurological conditions say they feel “left behind” due to a shortage of community neurorehabilitation services in parts of Dublin.
Advocates, including those from the Neurological Alliance of Ireland (NAI), are calling on the government to urgently address the gap in services and fulfil a commitment made in 2019.
The NAI, together with patient advocates, held a meeting this week, where TDs, medical professionals, and affected individuals gathered to discuss the shortage of neurorehabilitation services in the Dublin region.
The meeting highlighted the fact that the north Dublin community neurorehabilitation team, promised in 2019, remains unfunded and unavailable.
In contrast, areas such as Dublin south east/Wicklow and Dublin south west/Kildare/West Wicklow will see new neurorehabilitation teams rolling out later this year.
This leaves those in the north Dublin area, including major hospitals like the Mater and Beaumont, without vital services.
