FT: Putin's proposal for the end of the war in Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin offered to stop his invasion of Ukraine at a time when feverish efforts to reach peace agreement with US President Donald Trump, the Financial Times said, citing relevant sources.

The Russian president told Steve Whitkov, a special envoy of Trump, during a meeting in St. Petersburg earlier this month, that Moscow could give its claims to areas of four partially occupied Ukrainian areas that remain under its control.

The United States has since submitted proposals for a possible settlement, which includes Washington recognition of Crimea's Russian ownership, as well as at least the recognition of Moscow de facto control over the parts of the four areas it is currently holding....
