Gardaí appeal for witnesses after fire at old Galway hospital now being treated as criminal damage

Gardaí are treating the fire that broke out at St Brigid’s Hospital Campus in Ballinasloe, Co Galway, earlier this month as criminal damage and they are calling for witnesses to come forward.

The incident occurred on Tuesday April 15 at around 9.30pm on a green area near St Brigid’s Hospital Campus, the old psychiatric hospital, on the R446 in Ballinasloe.

No injuries were reported and no damage was caused to the building. However, nearly ten days after the fire, gardaí confirmed they are now treating the incident as criminal damage.

In a statement to the Irish Independent, gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
